A major health victory has been achieved in New Mexico where officials in the state’s largest city, Albuquerque, have made the historic decision to stop artificially fluoridating the municipal water supply. This means that more than half a million local residents will no longer be forcibly medicated with a toxic byproduct of the phosphate fertilizer manufacturing industry, and the city itself will save hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars a year in the process.
KOB News 4 in Albuquerque reports that, after much deliberation, officials from the Albuquerque Water Authority decided that it is no longer necessary to fluoridate the city’s water supply. Since some naturally-occurring fluoride is already present in the Albuquerque water supply, the city will instead “err on the side of caution,” to quote the words of the Water Authority‘s David Morris.
And why, exactly, is the city employing “caution” in the matter? First, the fluoride that continues to be added to many water supplies across America is not actually fluoride at all. It is either sodium fluoride, sodium fluorosilicate, or fluorosilicic acid, all of which are highly-toxic, industrial waste byproducts with no scientifically demonstrable health benefits.
In fact, these poser fluoride compounds have been shown in many recent studies to cause severe health problems, including tooth decay. Synthetic fluorides are also responsible for causing developmental problems in children, brain damage, lowered IQ, thyroid disorders, bone damage, hormone disruption and cancer (http://www.fluoridealert.org/fluoride-dangers/health/index.aspx).
According to Shane Ellison, M. Sc., also known as The People’s Chemist, fluoride directly attacks the structural integrity of the body, including collagen, a vital protein in the body that composes connective tissues like tendons, bones, cartilage, blood vessels, and even gut lining. Fluoride has also been shown to be mutagenic, which means it damages DNA and can lead to the development of cancer.
The foundation of oral health is not found in ingesting fluoride, in other words, but rather in maintaining optimal nutrition and oral health. Avoiding refined carbohydrates like processed sugars and high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), for instance, which easily ferment in the mouth and cause tooth decay, is a practical, sensical way to stave off cavities.
Regular consumption of raw, grass-fed butter and dairy products can also help prevent the development of cavities, according to research conducted by the late Weston Price, a dentist whose nutritional protocols have helped many people improve their health and mitigate disease.
You can proactively help to get fluoride removed from your own town or city by learning more about fluoride, and using this information to educate your friends, neighbors, and local officials about its many dangers: http://www.fluoridealert.org

Jeff Green has been an activist in the movement to eliminate a toxic fluoride from your water supply for the past 15 years.
With more than 60 percent of U.S. water supplies currently fluoridated, chances are you’re one of the 170 million Americans who drink fluoride on a daily basis.
In a previous interview, Green delved into the sordid history that made water fluoridation a reality in the first place.
If you missed it, I highly recommend taking the time to watch it now.
But fluoridated water is not the sole source of harmful fluoride. Here, the discussion focuses on some of the lesser known sources of fluoride exposure.
A Primary Source of Fluoride: Your Food!
While toothpaste and drinking water would appear to be the leading sources of fluoride exposure, probably the most common source of exposure is actually non-organic foods! The reason for this is because of the widespread use of fluoride-based pesticides.
According to Green, non-organic food could account for as much as one-third of the average person’s fluoride exposure!
This is important, as many people are under the mistaken assumption that by avoiding fluoridated water, they’ve eliminated the primary source of fluoride. But if you’re still eating conventionally-farmed foods, your fluoride exposure is still likely very high.
“Cryolite is actually sodium aluminum fluoride… This sodium aluminum fluoride is especially effective at killing bugs,” Green explains. “It’s also very sticky, so when they spray it, it’s more likely to stick on your produce, unless you’re… really working at trying to get it off of it. As time has gone on, and… everybody said fluoridation must be really great, they ramped up the amount of residue [allowed on food] from these fluoride-based pesticides. They have petitioned the EPA to be able to allow it, and they come out with larger and larger [allowable] amounts.”
Amazingly, based on the assumed safety of such fluoride-based pesticides, iceberg lettuce can now contain a whopping 180 parts per million (ppm) of fluoride—that’s 180 times higher than what’s recommended in drinking water!
“The assumption is that on a head of lettuce, you’re going to peel off those outer layers and you’re not going to eat much of that. Whether you do or not; that’s up to you… Romaine lettuce and what we call leaf lettuce are allowed to have 40 ppm, with the assumption that it’s down inside there and you’re going to have to do more cleaning. But because it’s so sticky, it’s almost impossible [to wash off] unless you go back to the old ideas of the Fuller brush… produce brushes that you… scrape this stuff off with. The majority of people don’t make that extra effort to be able to take it off.”
Citrus fruits are allowed to be contaminated with 95 ppm’s of sodium aluminum fluoride. Potatoes may have 22 ppm’s on the outside and up to two ppm’s on the inside. Raisins can have up to 55 ppm’s. But of all the foods, grapes are perhaps one of the foremost sources of fluoride exposure.
Bet you would not have guessed that!
Grapes are a major source of fluoride because, first of all, they’re heavily sprayed with cryolite, and second, white grape juice is typically used as the base, or filler juice in all sorts of juice drinks. So if you drink any kind of juice on a regular basis, you’re probably getting hefty doses of cryolite, i.e. fluoride-based pesticide… Cereals, mechanically deboned meats, and black or green tea are a few other sources that may surprise you.
“Wheaties for example was measured at 10 parts per million,” Green says. “Shredded Wheat: 9.4 parts per million. Why is it so high? One, they use pesticides on the grains. Two, they use [fluoridated] water… So you actually have higher concentrations than you ever found in the water where it was being made.
As for mechanically deboned meats, the source of the fluoride is the animal itself, which is exposed in the same manner as humans—through feed and water—which then comes out during the manufacturing process. Black and green teas are naturally high in fluoride, even if organically-grown without pesticides. This is because the plant readily absorbs fluoride thorough its root system, including naturally-occurring fluoride in the soil. According to Green, there are reports of people who have developed crippling skeletal fluorosis from drinking high amounts of iced tea alone.
Is Bottled Water More Pure than Tap Water?
Besides food though, drinking water is certainly a primary source of fluoride exposure. Many mistakenly believe that bottled water is the answer, but this is a serious misconception.
As a general rule, I don’t recommend or encourage using bottled water on a regular basis—for a number of reasons. Not only does it contribute to profound amounts of environmental pollution, but a variety of toxins can leach from the plastic, contaminating your water. Not to mention the fact that you’re not guaranteed a more pure product to begin with. An estimated 40 percent of all bottled water is just bottled tap water that may or may not have received additional water treatment. No, buying bottled water certainly is not a guarantee of getting either pure or fluoride-free water!
For pure drinking water, your best bet, from a practical perspective, is to filter the water coming into your own home. Unfortunately, fluoride can be quite difficult to remove from the water once added in. Reverse osmosis systems have typically been recommended to remove fluoride, but according to Green, many home systems may not be very efficient at this task. Commercial systems are typically much better, as they have redundancy features not found in smaller-scale residential models.
“[Y]ou’ve got to remember that the free fluoride ion, which is the part that we are concerned with… is smaller than the water molecule. You can’t… “filter” it out. You can’t screen it out because of the size, obviously… If you look at what the literature tells you, when you’re looking at reverse osmosis, they almost always say that if you had eight parts per million of fluoride [which is eight times higher than recommended]… they could bring it down to 0.9. So you get a 90 percent reduction.
But nobody says take your 0.9 and take it down to 0.1. Because what it’s basically doing is it’s taking out the fluoride compounds, which is still a good thing in some ways, especially if you had eight parts per million in it… but you’re still not getting out that free fluoride ion.”
To Distill or Not to Distill… That is the Question…
Distillation is another alternative. However, while distilled water is very clean, it also lacks structure and minerals, which is inadvisable for long-term daily use as it can deplete your body of essential trace minerals. Distilled water can be quite useful for short-term detoxification though.
Despite these drawbacks, Green prefers the distilled water over reverse osmosis, primarily because the amount of water that is wasted with the reverse osmosis (R/O) filtration systems. A reverse osmosis system can use anywhere between three to eight gallons of water to create one gallon of drinkable water.
I disagree with Green’s recommendation as the example he gave is quite skewed. The typical level of fluoride in most fluoridated municipal water supplies is about one part per million, not eight, like the example he gave. So if you reduce that by 90 percent with an R/O system you are in relatively safe range of 0.1 parts per million. You can use distilled water to remove nearly all of it, but the distillation process is a form of more severe processing than R/O and it is more difficult to restore the water minerals and structure.
Add Fluoride, and Other Chemicals Become More Dangerous…
Interestingly, not to mention importantly, fluoride has the ability to affect other toxins and heavy metals; in some cases making them even more harmful than they would be on their own. For example, when you combine chloramines with the hydrofluorosilicic acid added to the water supply, they become very effective at extracting lead from old plumbing systems—essentially, together; they promote the accumulation of lead in the water supply!
“In fact the two of them have been combined, and I believe patented to be put together so that they could extract lead,” Green says. “… In fact, you’ve seen from reports in Washington D.C. about the lead content [in the local water] that this combination can have tremendous effects.”
Studies have also showed that hydrofluorosilicic acid increaseslead accumulation in bone, teeth, and other calcium-rich tissues. According to Green, this is because the free fluoride ion acts as a transport of heavy metals, allowing them to enter into areas of your body they normally would not be able to go, such as into your brain.
“Industry prizes what we call fluoride compounds,” Green says. “What’s amazing is there is so much [information] out there that’s never explained to the general public. But [fluoride] is… the most aggressive seeker of another electron. It’s the most electromagnetically negatively charged element in the entire world. It basically is the most interactive of all the elements… It will give up whatever it’s with to be with something else…
So it’s prized by industry because it actually disrupts molecular bonds… Industry also wants it because it creates tighter molecular bonds. So Scotchgard, Stain Master, Gore-Tex, ski gear… These are all fluoride-type compounds as well because they actually make it a tighter molecular bond that is more impervious to penetration.
… By the time you get to the enzyme activity, and knowing what it can do to disrupt enzyme activity, the effects are so widespread, it’s just amazing… Once [people] learn the nature of fluoride, they would never want to put it in their water.”
Are Health Epidemics Spurred by Water Fluoridation and Pesticides?
While fluoride has been linked to a long list of health problems, two that are currently epidemic are thyroid disease and neurodegenerative diseases.
“I think the important thing is to realize that fluoride affects your endocrine system,” Green warns. “… [I]n December 2006… the National Academy of Sciences… came to the unanimous conclusion that the levels of fluoride thought to be the maximum contaminant level and was safe to be in the water, weren’t protective of human health at all… and that the places where you could see that very dramatically would have to do with the endocrine system.”
Fluoride also calcifies your pineal gland, which can lead to a number of health problems, from precocious puberty to cancer—both of which are also burgeoning epidemics… So, what, if anything, can you do to protect your health if you suspect you’re getting too much fluoride?
One early sign of over-exposure to fluoride is dental fluorosis, which typically begins as white specks on your teeth, which then progress to more unsightly yellow and brown mottling of the enamel. At the first signs of dental fluorosis, if you haven’t done so already, you’ll want to immediately eliminate as many sources of fluoride as possible.
But, according to Green, you also need to make sure you have certain nutrients in your system. These three will help bind the free fluoride ions, allowing it to be excreted from your body more effectively:
Magnesium
Calcium
Vitamin C
Join the Fight to Get Fluoride Out of Drinking Water
In summary it would seem like most rational people would conclude you should avoid using fluoride for its “preventive” benefits. You can easily choose not to take fluoride supplements or buy fluoride-free toothpaste and mouthwash. You can also dramatically reduce your fluoride exposure by opting for organic foods, on which fluoride-based pesticides are not permitted to be used. However, you’re still going to be stuck with whatever your community puts in the water, and as discussed, it’s very difficult to filter out of your water once it’s added. Many do not have the resources or the knowledge to do so.
It’s really time to stop the archaic practice of water fluoridation.
Earlier this year I joined forces with Dr. Paul Connett to help put an END to water fluoridation in the U.S and Canada. The Fluoride Action Network has a game plan to do just that. Our fluoride initiative will primarily focus on Canada since 60 percent of Canada is already non-fluoridated. If we can get Calgary and the rest of Canada to stop fluoridating their water, we believe the U.S. will be forced to follow. I urge you to join the anti-fluoride movement in Canada and the United States by contacting the representative for your area below.

For people who are not only interested in proper hydration, but also want to cleanse the body from toxins, water ionizers are effective and excellent machines, these can turn normal tap water into a good cleanser that has antioxidant effects.
Water with a negative charge (ORP) is known to retard the aging process. A high or rising ORP, on the other hand, causes oxidation and therefore aging. Machine-ionized water counteracts this rising ORP and has a rejuvenating effect on a cellular level. For instance, freshly squeezed orange juice has a negative ORP of -250. Although we can only drink comparatively small amounts of orange juice in a day without becoming overburdened by the sugar it contains, we can drink as much ionized water as we wish in a day (although it is generally best not to exceed 8 glasses per day).
Ionized water also contains hydroxyl ions. These are oxygen molecules with an extra electron attached to them, as are such antioxidants vitamins A, C and E. You can see these molecules in the form of thousands of tiny bubbles when you slow down the water flow on the water ionizer. Hydroxyl ions scavenge free oxygen radicals and provide us with extra oxygen and energy. Oxygen carries away acid waste from body tissue. It inhibits cancer cells and protects us against bacteria and viruses invading the body. Oxygen is the body’s most essential nutrient. Ionized water also helps balance the body’s pH which tends to become acidic when on a diet comprised of processed, refined and preserved foods. Besides meat and highly acid-forming foods, medical drugs and soft drinks contain the most acidifying substances you can consume. Because it is alkaline, ionized water can help dissolve accumulated acid waste and protect the body against acidity-related illness (most diseases are a form of acidosis).
The human body consists mostly of water. Ionized water is fundamentally different from conventional water. In ionized water, the size and shape of the water molecule cluster is smaller, which allows it to pass through intestinal walls, blood capillary walls, and cell walls more easily and remove toxins and acidic waste matter more effectively. This makes ionized water an excellent detoxifier. Water ionizers have several levels of strength. Accordingly, people who have accumulated a lot of toxins in the body may begin by drinking “mild” ionized water (lower alkaline pH) and gradually increase ionization levels as they get used to it. Besides its health benefits, ionized water also improves the taste of foods and beverages. It also ionizes the minerals in the food, which helps make them more biologically available.
One of the primary causes of disease is chronic cellular dehydration, a condition which leaves the body’s cells in a perpetual state of weakness and defense. Ionized water is up to six times more hydrating than conventional water. In other words, by drinking less or the same amount of water but in ionized form, you will actually hydrate your cells much more effectively.
(Note: The sipping of hot ionized water is used to remove toxins from the tissues and therefore rarely hydrates cells directly. However, once the toxins are removed, the cells become more efficiently hydrated than before.)
The water ionizers separate alkaline water from acid water. The alkaline water is good for drinking and the acid water is good for external applications. When applied topically, the ionized acid water tightens skin, and helps remove wrinkles, acne and other blemishes. At its strongest level, ionized acid water kills most harmful bacteria on contact. It improves hair and skin conditions of any kind, including removal of fungus, healing of cuts, scrapes, and even serious wounds. It takes the itch out of mosquito bites, and the sting out of other insect bites. You can also use it to remove pesticides from fruits and vegetables. Lastly, ionized acid water promotes substantially healthier plant growth. Tyent USA offers one of the most efficient, precise and user-friendly water ionizers, and I can recommend it to anyone who is interested in using water as a healing method or as an enhancement of health and well being.

Since the liver is unable to break down fluoride, it attempts to pass this poisonous chemical into the bile ducts (which are the only alternative way for the liver to deal with it). This leads to bile duct congestion and numerous other ailments. Fluoride is added to 60 percent of the drinking water in the United States and a number of other countries. Manufacturers add it to a wide range of products, including soy products, toothpaste, fluoride tablets, fluoride drops, fluoride chewing gum, tea, vaccines, household products, fluoridated salt or milk, anesthetics, mattresses emitting fluoride gases, Teflon, and antibiotics. It is also found in polluted air and polluted ground water. Because of its proven high toxicity, in August 2002 Belgium became the first country in the world to prohibit fluoride supplements.
“Fluoridation… is the greatest fraud that has ever been perpetrated and it has been perpetrated on more people than any other fraud has,” said Professor Albert Schatz, Ph.D. (Microbiology), discoverer of streptomycin and Nobel Prize winner. Fortunately, 98 percent of Western Europe has rejected water fluoridation. This includes Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. Exhaustive research has shown that tumors in laboratory animals were found to be the direct result of fluoride ingestion. Other animal studies found that fluoride accumulates in the pineal gland and interferes with its production of melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate the onset of puberty, thyroid functions, and numerous other basic physiological processes. In humans, fluoride has been found to cause arthritis, osteoporosis, hip fractures, cancer, infertility, Alzheimer’s disease, and brain damage.
Until the 1950s, European doctors used fluoride to treat hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid). The daily dose of fluoride that people are now receiving in fluoridated communities far exceeds the dose of fluoride that was found to depress the thyroid gland. Because of fluoridation, millions of people are now suffering from hypothyroidism (under-active thyroid). This condition is currently one of the more common medical problems in the United States. Today, over 150 symptoms can be identified in hypothyroidism. Almost all correlate with known symptoms of fluoride poisoning.
The symptoms of hypothyroidism include depression, dizziness, fatigue, weight gain, muscle and joint pain, hair loss, headache, migraine, shortness of breath, GI problems, menstrual problems, unbalanced blood pressure, increased cholesterol levels, allergies, insomnia, panic attacks and moodiness, irregular heartbeat, and congestive heart failure. A large number of children and adults in India and other developing countries are crippled and their teeth are destroyed because of fluoride poisoning from industry pollution.
To help the body deal with fluoride-caused illnesses, including hypothyroidism, it is important to clean out the liver bile ducts, avoid fluoride-containing products, and use a water filtering system that removes fluoride. Distillation and reverse osmosis (RO) are effective in removing the fluoride (along with contaminants). For more ideal filtering devices, you may need to contact your local dealer for water filters.
The mineral boron removes fluoride from the body. The most absorbable form of boron is ionic boron. A decongesting diet according to body type, regular sleeping and eating habits, and stress-free living conditions are essential for recovery.

Dr. Paul Connett is recognized worldwide as a leader in the movement to eliminate fluoride from the municipal water supplies, and I’m pleased to be working with him to achieve this goal.
Earlier this year, he used frequent flyer miles to visit New Zealand and in a month-long tour gave presentations to communities all over the country.
In this interview, he shares some of the successes the movement has experienced.
Dr. Connett has great hopes that New Zealand will move to ban water fluoridation.
“New Zealand has the ability to say no,” he says.
“It became a nuclear free zone and said no to American nuclear ships.
They have the capacity to be a maverick…
I gave a talk to the Ministry of Health and we were expecting two or three people – in actual fact, 25 people showed up.”
What’s Driving the Irrational Water Fluoridation Mandates?
According to Dr. Connett, with the science we now have on fluoride, the current water fluoridation mandates simply do not make any sense. If it is to continue, then the authorities will have to come up with some rational explanations to explain this irrational behavior.
“Teeth are important, but I can’t believe that all these governments are mobilized to protect this miniscule amount of saved teeth,” he says.
“What is the rational explanation for this irrational behavior?…. We know why the rank and file continue; because they are busy doctors and dentists; they don’t have time to read the literature. They just mouth what they are told by their professional bodies.
It’s the attitude of the peopleat the top of these chains of command; top of the dental associations, top of the health departments, in our (U.S.) case, the Department of Health and Human Services. To lose fluoridation means to lose credibility…”
He may be right, because if they lose credibility on this issue, they stand to lose credibility on other public health policies, such as the childhood vaccination schedule, for example. After all, they must have the public’s trust in order to effectively oversee public health policy, and that’s part of the reason for why they’re fighting so hard to stave this issue off.
“I said to the [New Zealand] Ministry of Health: If you had the courage, you would gain credibility. If you came out now and said, it’s a mistake, or we found out that it only works topically; there is no point in putting it in people’s water… [Then] they would regain the public’s trust.
The people will be so impressed that they have had the integrity to actually tell the truth…then maybe they’ll gain back some credibility on some of these other public health practices.”
Why Water Fluoridation is “A Stupid Thing To Do”
There are very good reasons for not putting fluoride in the water supplies. It is a drug. If you wanted some to ingest, you’d have to get a prescription. And there are good reasons for why we don’t purposely add any other drugs to our water.
As Dr. Connett says:
“We don’t use the public water supply to deliver medicine because it’s a stupid thing to do. You can’t control the dose. You can’t control who gets it. [There's] no individual supervision. Of course it violates the individual’s right to informed consent to medicine.
So, first of all, you start by saying this is a crazy thing to do, for most people. Then you say, what are the dangers? I spent 15 years pursuing the dangers, but then I woke up one day and said, if it doesn’t work anyway; why would we take any risk at all? Why would we lower a kid’s IQ by even a small few number of IQ points? Why would we run the risk of making our bones more brittle when we get old? Why would we run the risk of arthritis? Why would we run the risk of lowering thyroid function?
Why is it that the governments that fluoridate don’t investigate any of the things that I have just listed, and yet spend most of their time attacking the methodology of the studies that have found harm in India and China and elsewhere? [The loss of credibility is], I think, the most rational explanation that I have come up with.
The Tide is Shifting in New Zealand
FAN has had an excellent group working in New Zealand for about 11 years. They are very effective. During my visit they even managed to get the media excited with their educational events, and the traditional Maori’s held an event that was covered on Maori television.
“At least that indigenous community was being informed here,” he says.
Articles were published in the magazine Organic New Zealand, and Grey Power, so the seniors in New Zealand were getting the message as well. Dr. Connett also gave a series of talks to various councils. His talks included the video presentation of Professional Perspectives on Water Fluoridation, which features 15 different scientists who have spent years investigating fluoride.
In June, the Ruapehu-Taumarunui District Council confirmed their decision to stop fluoridating their water. The town has fluoridated their water supplies for the past 30 years, and their decision came after they had heard from Dr. Connett in person and also consulted proponents for their views. The Upper Hutt City council also resolved to lobby Wellington Regional to stop fluoridation.
“They can’t put citizens down anymore. They can’t pull rank on citizens. They can’t say, “I’m a doctor, I’m a dentist and you’re a nobody, go away.” Because the citizen just holds up the book and say, “Have you read this book? [The Case against Fluoride]” And when they say no, ‘Well, you better go read this book and come back with a scientific response.” Which, incidentally, is what I said to the Ministry of Health. Stop putting millions of dollars into public relations fluff; pamphlets with no references. You’ve got a challenge here. Here is a book with 80 pages of references.
Every single fact is backed up with scientific references to the primary peer reviewed literature. Give a scientific response to it, and if you cannot give a scientific response then the onus is on you to stop this. If you can’t support a major public health policy with good science then that’s the signal to stop the policy and not the signal to squash the science, which they have been doing for 60 years.”
Also on his NZ tour Dr. Connett spoke to a public meeting held in New Plymouth The citizens’ concern generated at this meeting led the council to hold a two-day public hearing to hear formal presentations from both sides. Having done so the council voted out fluoridation.
Good News from North America
Dr. Connett has also been traveling across North America. A particularly exciting meeting took place in a public library in London, Ontario. Citizens had arranged a massive billboard for the event to draw people in, and the attendance was so great they had to turn about 30 people away as all the seats were taken. More than 400 people took in the presentation.
“They heard the science. They heard that it wasn’t effective, and they heard that it wasn’t safe. There’s no adequate margin of safety, particularly when it comes to protecting your brain.
But they also heard and saw the recalcitrant attitude of the local health officers… These guys are like clockwork toys. They come in and say it’s safe and effective.
What you’re looking at are trapped animals. They have got to decide whether they’re going to tell the truth on fluoridation or whether they are going to resign, because they won’t hold on to that job for a day longer if they come out against fluoridation. This is the middle level of bureaucracy.”
The truth is also gaining a foothold in Calgary, where the council has now voted against water fluoridation twice. In the ratifying vote, they voted 12 to 2 to end water fluoridation. Waterloo, Ontario already voted to end fluoridation last year, so the dominoes are beginning to fall in Canada. Since October, 2010 when citizens voted to halt fluoridation in Waterloo, Ontario another 10 Canadian communities have halted fluoridation. For a list of these communities as well as the American and NZ communities who have done likewise, please see the Fluoride Action Networks website. At this point, British Columbia and the province of Quebec are close to fluoridation-free.
This will bring much needed pressure on the U.S.
Peter Vallone, Jr. a well respected councilor in New York, has already introduced a bill to get fluoridation out of New York City. And once New York City stops water fluoridation, the rest of the U.S. will have no choice but to follow suit. The movement is also gaining momentum in Austin, Texas.
The Power of the People
These successes are due to people like yourself, who decided to get involved and take action to get fluoride out of their local water supply.
“You appealed to people who wanted to get it out of their city to contact us… I think it was your call to arms several months ago that really signaled this tidal change,” Dr. Connett says.
So, from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone who participated in this process, but also encourage you to help people understand that the battle is not yet won. So now is the time to really band together and continue chipping away at it.
“I think the first thing to recognize is that although this is incredibly difficult, at the corrupt center of our (federal) government… because there is so much money and so much influence there, but we can win it one town at a time,” Dr. Connett says.
“You’ve got to remember, it is as easy to stop this practice as turning off a tap. But to turn off that tap, you need political will. If we have the political will in our communities, we can turn that tap off. But to turn that tap off, we have to have people informed, and we have to have people organized.”
Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter are excellent tools to help spread the truth about fluoride, and to get organized locally.
Urge Your Local Water Department to Post Important Warning on Water Bill
The Fluoride Action Network is also urging communities to pressure their local water departments to place a warning on the water bill, stating that parents should not use fluoridated water to mix baby formula. In November 2006, the American Dental Association has issued this warning to its members—the dentists—but has failed miserably when it comes to actually warning parents.
“Even at the lower 0.7 parts per million, which is the new recommended level by the DHHS; even at 0.7 parts per million, a bottle-fed baby is getting 175 times more fluoride than a breastfed baby,” Dr. Connett warns.
“… We now have 25 studies that indicate that fluoride is associated with the lowering of IQ. A recent study from Ding et.al… [published] in the Journal of Hazardous Materials… found a lowering of IQ at low levels – not moderate, not high levels, (but) low levels. The range of the [fluoride levels in the] water in the children that they studied was between 0.3 and 3 parts per million. This overlaps the concentration range used in U.S. cities (0.7 -1.2 ppm
They were able to correlate the level of fluoride in the urine, which is a measure of individual exposure to fluoride… there was a very strong linear correlation with lowering of IQ and fluoride concentrations in the urine; very strong.
… What parent in their right mind would put the interest of their children’s teeth, even if it worked (to swallow fluoride), above the interest of their brains? It’s literally a no-brainer isn’t it?
… What Ding et.al showed was that for each one part per million of fluoride in the urine, there was a lowering of IQ by 0.59 IQ points. That doesn’t sound much, but when you shift the IQ of the whole population… you will reduce the number of geniuses in your society, and you will increase the number of mentally handicapped. Believe me, in a competitive world, you want all the geniuses that you can get, and you want to minimize the number of children who have to be treated for mental development problems.”

We’re also going to address four US communities: New York City, Austin, San Diego, and Portland:
New York City, New York: The anti-fluoridation movement has a great champion in New York City councilor Peter Vallone, Jr. who introduced legislation on January 18 “prohibiting the addition of fluoride to the water supply.”A victory there could signal the beginning of the end of fluoridation in the U.S. If you live in the New York area I beg you to participate in this effort as your contribution could have a MAJOR difference. Remember that one person can make a difference. The point person for this area is Carol Kopf, at the New York Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation (NYSCOF). Email her at NYSCOF@aol.com . Please contact her if you’re interested in helping with this effort.
Austin, Texas: Join the effort by contacting Rae Nadler-Olenick at either: info@fluoridefreeaustin.com orfluoride.info@yahoo.com, or by regular mail or telephone:POB 7486
Austin, Texas 78713

San Diego, California: Contact Patty Ducey-Brooks, publisher of the Presidio Sentinel at pbrooks936@aol.com.
Portland, Oregon: Dr. Connett just returned from Oregon where he spent the past week working with Oregon Citizens for Safe Drinking Water (OCSDW) to educate citizens and policy makers on the complex issues of fluoridation. He worked to consolidate the recent victory in Philomath, OR where city council members wisely voted 6 to 1 to discontinue fluoridation, and to reach out to citizens in Portland which is expected to be the next biggest battleground over fluoridation. Now that Santa Clara County (San Jose) succumbed to the fluoridation lobby, Portland has become the largest city in the United States which remains unfluoridated. Now it is in the cross hairs. Please help us keep Portland fluoridation free by contacting OCSDW director, Kimberly Kaminski at kim@safewateroregon.orgor (503) 421-9197.This is URGENT! Kimberly needs help, whether it be with real live volunteers or with much needed financial donations. Contributions may be made through PayPal at the OCSDW website: www.SafeWaterOregon.org. And for the techo-phils, she also has an immediate need for someone to help her update her database and website. We all know Oregon is a key state in the fluoridation battle. Please help us today to keep Portland and the rest of Oregon fluoride free!

It takes a special kind of humility for a medical professional to admit that something he or she was taught in medical school, and has long since clung to as fact, is actually false. But a growing number of dentists from around the world, many of whom formerly supported water fluoridation, are now boldly speaking out against it as a long-held, unsubstantiated medical dogma purported to prevent tooth decay, but that actually damages health and provides no legitimate oral health benefits.
Recently, there has been intense pressure in many communities to remove fluoride chemicals from water supplies. Particularly in the US where fluoridation is quite common, many local residents have been sending information about fluoride’s dangers to their city council members, and even attending and speaking at meetings.
But what is often missing from reports about anti-fluoridation efforts is the fact that many medical professionals, including dentists, are also in agreement that fluoride ingestion is dangerous. In other words, these are not just concerned citizens without medical degrees that are raising an issue, but they are people that have been extensively educated in oral health.
“When I graduated from University, we weren’t given any information about where [fluoride] came from,” says Dentist Caree Alexander, a former Navy practitioner who also had a private dental practice for 20 years, in the documentary FIRE WATER: Australia’s Industrial Fluoridation Disgrace. “We all assumed it was [pharmaceutical-grade] calcium fluoride.”
Other prominent dentists that have spoken out against fluoride include Dr. Thomas Connelly from New York City; Dr. Andrew Harms, former president of the Australian Dental Association; Dentist Hardy Limeback, PhD, from the University of Toronto’s Department of Preventive Dentistry; Dentist Bill Osmunson from the Fluoride Action Network (FAN); and Dentist David Kennedy from the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT), just to name a few.
“My [published] work showed that fluoride accumulates in the human pineal gland and lowers melatonin production in animals,” says Dentist Jennifer Luke, PhD. “I find it extraordinary that no government promoting fluoridation has chosen to pursue these worrying findings.”
Beyond simply ignoring the science surrounding fluoride’s dangers, the US government and its media pawns routinely take the offensive against those opposed to water fluoridation, slandering them as paranoid conspiracy theorists. But there is no denying that thousands of medical professionals, including dentists, are adamantly against it as well.
More than 3,790 professionals, 324 of which are dentists, have already signed FAN’s Call for an End to Water Fluoridation, which you can view here: http://www.fluoridealert.org/profes…
Water filtration: Reverse Osmosis removes necessary minerals
This is a question on water filtration and whether reverse osmosis would be a good solution, or, some other filtration system would be better than reverse osmosis.
I can only tell you I did, when lived in Minneapolis, I used a reverse osmosis system. I never felt very comfortable with it, there was something about it that left me feeling that there is something missing in the water and later I discovered that in fact, it takes out a lot of minerals and good things that the water should have. So, I changed to a regular water filtration system that would make the water taste very good. It would also not throw away a lot of extra water because reverse osmosis means that it leaves… like half of the water would be lost, it just disappears, you have to discard it.
Ionizers, water ionizers, I do use a water ionizer, life ionizer, there is something that is on my website you can read up on it. But there is an advantage sometimes if you want to drink some special water that has a higher Ph value but, I am perfectly satisfied with the water filtration that takes out the main contaminants and bacteria that are in the water. But if you are in a highly contaminated area, in a big city, then you also probably want to take out fluoride and there are special water filtration systems that take out fluorides so, I suggest you look into that further. There is a lot of that on the internet, you will find a lot of information on that subject.

This is a question from Shivanand and it relates to water, particularly to tap water and they were wondering what I think about tap water Vs. bottled water and also knowing that water can stay or go through pipes, dirty pipes, and stay there for a long time and also with knowing that water can stay in plastic bottles for a long, long time before they are sold.
These are certainly concerning facts because we know that plastic bottles leach harmful cancer-producing chemicals into the water. So there is a big issue now with regards to these chemicals raising the body’s hormones, estrogens particularly, which can lead to certain types of cancer growth. They act like growth hormones, they lead to excessive growth patterns in cells. So I am certainly not in favour of any bottled water unless it is a plastic that does not let parts of chemicals enter the water. So once again I am very, very conscious about any bottles. Drinking bottled water means also that you are drinking tap water because that is basically what it is. These companies, they just take regular tap water and then they use a system, mostly reverse osmosis, and they bottle it and then sell it for more money than actually gas, gasoline. So it is a big money- making scheme and it is a scam. I personally do not promote it.
So what I do is, I have a filtration system that filters my tap water. In this way, I know I can remove the contaminants from that water, and it is flowing water and flowing water is always better than stagnant water. Stagnant water is pretty much dead, so it sits in a bottle for a long time, there is really no life force in it, whereas water that you use in your home, you know there is a constant flow because you are flushing toilets, you are showering, you are drinking, you using this water for food, so the water is never stagnant for a long time. Older homes obviously have pipes that can leak, heavy metals that can come through. So a good filtration system is advised in this respect, so I would encourage you to get one and not just drink tap water, but drink tap water that has been filtered, properly filtered, then it is very safe and you are sure that you are not going to be harmed by plastic elements and other noxious substances that may be in the bottled water.
We now know that there are lots of harmful things in bottled water and it is not as clean as it looks.
Thank you.
